## CHAPTER 11: 2-D AND 3-D GEOMETRY

**Lesson 3: Making Polygon Patterns**

Use these interactive activities to encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about making polygon patterns. Students can try these activities on their own or in pairs.

**Goal**

Identify, describe, and extend polygon patterns.

**Builds Upon **

Student Book pages 258–259

**Instructions for Use**

Shape Tool allows students to create and extend their own polygon patterns.

To make a pattern, click a coloured shape at the top of the screen to make it appear in the white box. Drag the shape to the spot you want it. Continue clicking other shapes to create and extend a pattern. To make the shapes smaller, click “–” and then click on a shape. Making the shapes smaller will help you fit more shapes in a row.

Slides, Flips, and Turns for 2-Dimensional Figures (SMART Notebook-Compatible) asks students to complete patterns using 2-D shapes. Pages 3 and 4 are most appropriate for this lesson. You should set this activity up for students. You may want to adapt the SMART Notebook file to suit your class.

Follow the directions on each page.
