Use these interactive activities to encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about measuring mass in grams. Students can try the activities on their own or in pairs.

Estimate and measure mass in grams.

**Instructions for Use**

Pan Balance — Shapes provides students with a virtual pan balance to measure the mass of different shapes.

Click and drag a coloured shape onto one side of the pan balance. Click on another shape to place on the other side of the pan balance. Keep adding shapes until the two sides balance. The balanced shapes will appear in the table to the right. Click “Reset Balance” to try balancing other shapes. Click “Clear Table” to clear the balanced shapes shown in the table.

Pretend the red squares are 1 gram each.
