### Lesson 1: Using Charts and Lists

Organize data using charts and lists to answer questions.

Instructions for Use

Click “Medium,” then “Play” to begin. Look at the clipboard for the animal’s name in red, then count the number of that animal on the island above, then select that number from the blue text at the top of the clipboard. When complete, click “Play Again” to repeat a different problem for the same level.

Interpreting Data has your child organize data about favourite hobbies using a tally chart and then represent this data in other ways. Note that the first section of this activity is most appropriate for this lesson, however your child may continue on with the other sections.

Read the instructions, then click “OK” to begin. Click on each child’s head for their answer to be recorded on the tally chart, then type the total of tally marks for each hobby in the “Total” column and click “Done.”

Read the instructions for the next section, then click “OK” to continue. Looking at the totals in the chart to the left, use the “+” and “−” buttons to add coloured bars to the graph to show the number of children who chose each hobby. Click “Done,” then click “OK” to continue.

Click and drag the stars onto the chart to show the totals from the chart to the left. Note that a full star represents 2 children, where a half star represents 1 child. Then click “Done” to finish. You may repeat the process for other data by clicking on the red arrows beside the question to show other questions.
