Lesson 6: Using 10-Frames to Subtract

Use these interactive activities to encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about addition and subtraction strategies. Students can try these activities on their own or in pairs.

Instructions for Use

Ten Frame allows students to practice counting, using 10 as a benchmark. Once they have answered the question “How many are there?” or “How many are empty?” ask students to write a subtraction sentence where the answer is the number of counters on the Ten Frame. For example if the Ten Frame shows 7 counters, a student would write 10 - 3 = 7.

Look at the Ten Frame and answer the question at the top of the screen. Then write a subtraction sentence that describes the Ten Frame model.
