The Nelson Education Teaching Advantage (NETA) program delivers research-based instructor resources that promote student engagement and higher-order thinking to enable the success of Canadian students and educators.

Engaging with Students in Today’s Fast-Changing Learning Environment

Technology is quickly changing the educational environment, presenting both challenges and opportunities. Today’s students are less content to learn solely from books. They are increasingly connected in the world. Technology plays a major part in students’ lives, and they seek creative and flexible methods to support their education.

Instructors can find it challenging to maintain motivation and create engagement with students who are used to highly personalized digital experiences. That’s why many instructors recognize the need to more fully integrate technology-driven, pedagogically relevant learning tools into the classroom. When used appropriately, technology can reduce some aspects of an instructor’s workload. This enables instructors to focus more fully on what they do best: provide an excellent educational foundation that enables the success of their students.

Similarly, to meet the changing needs of instructors and students in today’s learning environment and enable their success, Nelson Education has worked hand-in-hand with educators to develop digital resources, such as Aplia and MindTap, that focus on engagement, application, analysis, and critical thinking with depth and context. These resources were created to harness technology’s power to drive student success while improving the teaching experience for instructors. The Technology in Teaching page provides information about tools such as homework aids, instant feedback, self-assessment questions, and practice quizzes to help learners advance at their own pace.

Elevate Thinking and the Nelson Partnership

Nelson Education has been proud to share a successful, collaborative partnership with departments of higher education across Canada. Faculty have worked with us as authors and reviewers, and as members of our Editorial Advisory Boards.  Our Nelson Education Teaching Advantage program grew from this important partnership and resulted in research-based instructor resources that promote student engagement and higher-order thinking to enable the success of Canadian students and educators. Students have advised us on the creation of resources, and administration and campus bookstores and facilities have been our business partners.

As the landscape of the learning environment changes, our resources continue to evolve, enabling us to elevate the way students think, regardless of geography, time constraints, or learning styles.
