About the Product

INCLUSIVE EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION: DEVELOPMENT, RESOURCES, AND PRACTICE, Sixth Edition, is a comprehensive special education resource book that provides essential information on a variety of early childhood learning disabilities, as well as strategies for including children with these special needs in regular educational settings. The author provides students with a solid grounding in theory and research, as well as practical guidelines, real-world vignettes, and hands-on program planning assistance to prepare them to integrate children with learning disabilities into their classrooms. Updated throughout, this edition also introduces videos that are available for viewing at the Early Childhood Education Media Library, allowing students to see text concepts brought to life in real classroom settings.

  • Information on the disabilities themselves and their etiologies has been updated.

  • In the Field vignettes written by teachers, administrators, parents, and even children highlight issues from different points of view, broadening students' perspectives.

  • Sections on Implications for Educators ensure that students synthesize material. These sections are designed to answer the "So what?" question by showing readers how the topic or evidence under discussion specifically applies in classroom practice.

  • The Evidence Base sections help students understand the role of research and how to use evidence to inform teaching.

  • The book incorporates changes dictated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act and the No Child Left Behind Act.

  • Anecdotal vignettes describe challenges encountered by educators and how they dealt with the various issues.

  • Chapter-ending discussion questions and short focused dilemmas are designed to help students reflect upon and integrate information.

  • Guidelines in chapters that have a disability focus help students think about the general principles they will use to adapt their teaching style to include children with that particular disability.

  • Listings of useful educational resources that can be found primarily on the Internet help readers learn more about particular disabilities, issues, and available support.

  • Three hundred activities enhance readers' knowledge, planning, and preparation for managing inclusive classrooms.

"[This is a] great resource [with a] very easy layout and format. The concepts are broken down and reinforced with real-world examples."
— Clayton Ryan, Fisher College
