Overview

About the Product

Launching a small business start-up is challenging. Students have big visions and great ideas, but they may not be sure what their next steps are. As Scott Belsky, co-founder of Behance, puts it, “It’s not about ideas. It’s about making ideas happen.” How do your students put their visions and ideas into action? Small Business: An Entrepreneur’s Plan, 7th Enhanced Canadian Edition, helps students organize their thought processes by building business plans step-by-step, turning ideas into achievable goals. Through Action Steps, Checklists, Opening Windows, and Case Studies, students receive a complete coverage of what it takes to develop a business plan while diving into the mindset of an entrepreneur. Students will learn about the successes and failures that many entrepreneurs have experienced, providing them with real-world context all the while learning how to apply this knowledge to their own plans. Small Business: An Entrepreneur’s Plan, 7th Enhanced Canadian Edition, is the roadmap to building a business plan and will help your students develop the tools needed to achieve that next level of success!

Features

  • Authored by Chris Castillo to augment the eBook, the eModules are thematically based on key topics that relate to the changing new-venture landscape. Included with the 7th Enhanced Canadian Edition are three NEW eModules: Social Media, Financing, and Management.

  • Action Steps provide students with a task-based learning strategy, effectively breaking down each step to better prepare them for the world of Entrepreneurship.

  • Closely tied to Action Steps, the Building Blocks work to ensure students have a solid foundation of Entrepreneurship and are best prepared to step out into the real world.

  • Students will gain an in-depth understanding of the mind of an Entrepreneur through the Entrepreneurial Vignette: which strategies were applied, what risks were taken, and how to think creatively about their ideas. With real-world examples to draw from, students will make connections between theories and application through brief case studies.

  • Checklist Questions and Actions provide students with brief summaries of key chapter material and also serve as a reference when building their business plan. Through the varied questions, students will have additional opportunities to put theory into practice while applying their problem-solving skills.

  • Found throughout each chapter, Opening Windows will provide students with additional figures, tables, and online resources to further support the concepts covered throughout Small Business: An Entrepreneur’s Plan, 7th Enhanced Canadian Edition. Each of these are key resources to utilize when stepping out into the world of small business.

  • Each chapter houses a comprehensive Case Study to draw connections between what students are learning and how it applies to real-world scenarios. Learning from successful entrepreneurs, students will cover topics such as Trends and Opportunities in Chapter 2, Customer Profiling in Chapter 4, and Financing Your Business in Chapter 10. These case studies will provide students with key insight into the successes of various entrepreneurs.

  • Throughout Small Business: An Entrepreneur’s Plan, 7th Enhanced Canadian Edition, there are a variety of E-Exercises and updated Entrepreneurial Web Links that we encourage your students to reference and utilize to further develop their skills related to small business success. Topics include financial management, creating a mobile app, testing a business idea, and more!

Reviews

“Our learning outcomes require the students to complete a business plan, so I have been using the action steps throughout classes to have the students write their thoughts/reflections in an ‘adventure journal.’ Having these action steps allows the students to reflect on their learning immediately and not just after 16 weeks, and it also forces them to think about the business they want to plan for at the very beginning, assuring me they will not be at the last minute of planning.“
