About the Product

ENVIRONMENTAL POLITICS explores the issues that shape environmental policy today. The introduction places environmental politics in context by identifying some of the events that have occurred over the last decade that have affected the field's development--from the listing of the polar bear as an endangered species to the opening of China's Three Gorges Dam. The new edition provides coverage of the historical roots of environmentalism, milestones in the development of key policies, and current problems and conflicts. It contains 12 new "Another View, Another Voice" profiles and six new "Emerging Issues" features. The author provides in-depth coverage in a readable, concise format that shows readers how environmental problems are identified and how solutions are formulated and implemented.

  • The process model is used as a paradigm for exploring environmental politics and policy, helping students understand how politics affects policymaking and how that affects progress toward solving environmental problems.

  • This book has been praised for its objectivity and its clear explanations of controversies that are often framed in political rhetoric.

  • The author provides an overview that goes beyond the "headline news" approach and integrates science and politics in a coherent conversation about policy.

"Vaughn has produced a fascinating and insightful reader that has emerged as one of the leading undergraduate texts on environmental politics for years to come. Given that it is now in its sixth edition speaks volumes. It cleverly bridges the abstract with the concrete and the local with global. I highly recommend it." -- Kristian P. Alexander, University of Utah
