An Invitation to Health, sixth Canadian edition, provides students with research-backed information, advice, and recommendations that enable them to take charge of their own health, helping them find and stay on the right track to a healthy lifestyle. From the physical and mental, to social and sexual, all aspects of health affecting mind, body, and spirit are explored. This text offers the most current research from Canada and across the globe in an easy-to-follow format that guarantees you are up-to-date in the field. The skills you acquire, habits you form, choices you make, and the way you live each day will shape your future and your health. This product will help you embrace health and wellness so that you have the opportunity to live a satisfying life and achieve your full potential.

Features

  • Strategies for Change boxes appear throughout the text and provide practical, checklist-format, behavioural change strategies for achieving better health.

  • Strategies for Prevention boxes appear throughout the text and provide effective, checklist-format strategies for preventing health problems and reducing health risks.

  • Self-Responsibility and Social Responsibility boxes have been designed to help students reflect on the Stages of Change model and determine how positive lifestyle change affects both individuals and society.

  • Self-Surveys at the end of each chapter provide an opportunity for students to assess their knowledge and understanding of course concepts, thereby encouraging personal reflection and increasing student engagement in course material.

  • FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) are found at the beginning of each chapter. These engage students with answers to the most commonly asked health and wellness questions, such as: “What is health?” “How do I overcome a weight problem?” “What causes drug dependence and abuse?” “What can help me relax?” and “What is spirituality?” Page references are included after each question, signaling where the answer can be found.
