Overview

About the Product

Managing Human Resources provides a comprehensive overview of the functions, systems, and responsibilities related to human resources. The authors have two main purposes in writing this book, which they state in the preface: to equip students with the tools and practices needed to be a successful human resource professional, along with an appreciation for the change they can effect, and to present the most current challenges and opportunities that graduating students will face when they enter the work environment. The product recognizes the value of the HR professional in developing and implementing strategy, ultimately supporting the success of their employees as well as the entire organization.

Features

  • The Integrated Learning System (ILS) provides a framework for studying the concepts within each chapter. Learning outcomes are listed at the beginning of each chapter and are found throughout the chapter in the margins. Thought-provoking questions associated with the learning outcomes provide the opportunity for students to think about how the content applies to them personally.

  • Highlights in HRM provides real-world examples of how organizations perform HR functions.

  • Reality Check contains an interview with a Canadian expert in the field, illustrating how the material taught in the chapter is used in the real world.

  • The Business Case allows students to see the business or financial implications of an HR practice.

  • Ethics in HRM provokes discussion and debate around key topics in HRM.

  • Case studies found throughout the text present current issues in real-life settings to encourage critical thinking and application.
