Overview

About the Product

ELECTRICAL STUDIES FOR TRADES, 4th EDITION is ideal for current and future service technicians in fields such as air conditioning and refrigeration, construction, and facilities management who require practical knowledge of electricity. This book begins with an overview of basic electricity concepts rather than introducing complex mathematical calculations. From this starting point, readers proceed directly to "must-know" information, including how to determine wire sizes and make a variety of common switch connections. Different types of electrical power panels are also examined in detail. Discussion of general wiring practices and circuit protectors, as well as an introduction to transformers and three-phase and single-phase motors, rounds out the comprehensive coverage.

Features

  • UP-TO-DATE INFORMATION: Provides completely up-to-date information on both motion and process control to ensure that the entire spectrum of industrial control is addressed.

  • REAL-LIFE EXAMPLES: Examples that mirror the types of situations technicians face in the field are used throughout to reinforce the practical, applied, approach to electricity fundamentals.

  • MEASUREMENT INSTRUMENTS EXPLAINED: Measurement instruments commonly used in the field are identified and explained to assist readers in using them and interpreting results.

  • STAND ALONE UNITS: Stand-alone units allow readers to gain an overall understanding of electricity basics, while focusing their attention on topics that relate to particular trades.

Delmar's Standard Textbook of Electricity  (ISBN-10: 1418065803 | ISBN-13: 9781418065805)

Understanding the theory and application of electrical concepts is necessary for a successful career in the electrical field specifically in industrial maintenance and installation, and this newly revised, full color text delivers! Delmar's Standard Textbook of Electricity, Fourth Edition trains aspiring electricians by blending concepts relating to electrical theory with practical 'how to' information that prepares readers for situations commonly encountered on the job. This revision retains all the hallmarks of our market-leading prior editions, but displays enhancements such as more practical application problems. Topics span the major aspects of the electrical field including direct and alternating current circuits, basic theory, transformers, generators, and motors. This new edition has been organized so that all relevant information is located within a given chapter which allows for flexibility to access and cover topics in any order making this text an indispensable resource.

Electricity 1: Devices, Circuits & Materials  (ISBN-10: 1435400720 | ISBN-13: 9781435400726)

Designed to give readers the “building blocks” of electricity concepts, the sequence of topics and practical applications in this book will provide a solid foundation in electron theory and movement, direct-current series circuits, parallel circuits, series-parallel circuits, voltage line drops, rotating machinery fundamentals, and more! Electricity 1: Devices, Circuits and Materials, 9th Edition follows the same user-friendly approach that made previous editions so effective, while incorporating updates based on the 2008 National Electrical Code®. Featuring current industry terminology, photographs of commonly used electrical equipment, and sample problems with solutions, this is an ideal choice for a first course in basic electricity, house wiring, or commercial installations.

Electricity 2: Devices, Circuits and Materials  (ISBN-10: 1435400690 | ISBN-13: 9781435400696)

Electricity 2: Devices, Circuits and Materials, 9th Edition acquaints newcomers to the field with various types of alternating current circuits, while developing a solid understanding of the concepts of power, power factor, and power factor correction. This book, completely updated to the 2008 National Electrical Code®, explores alternating current principles and concepts of inductive reactance, capacitive reactance, and impedance. Sample problems and solutions at the end of each unit provide a direct route to understanding as readers apply key electrical principles in realistic troubleshooting situations

Residential Construction Academy: Electrical Principles  (ISBN-10: 1401812945 | ISBN-13: 9781401812942)

Part of the Residential Construction Academy series, Electrical Principles bridges the gap between theory books that include topics that electricians do not need to know (e.g., resonance and devices) and books for electricians that try to cover all the theory in one chapter. Instead, through the use of a lively writing style and frequent examples, Stephen Herman expands on the important topics that residential electricians need, so that students have time to fully grasp the concepts they'll need on the job. This text focuses on the theory that a residential wireman needs and it includes important safety and OSHA information. Create a direct link between your education/training program and the residential construction industry! Training materials are now available for many of the residential crafts based on skill standards developed by the nation's leading builders and educators. The result of a strategic partnership between the National Association of Home Builder's Home Builders Institute and Delmar Learning, the Residential Construction Academy Series is the perfect way to teach essential workplace skills to people new to the building trades. Ideal for use in vocational programs, workforce development programs, professional associations, and trade unions, all materials are based on industry standards. The Residential Construction Academy also offers credentialing for programs using the skill standards and materials, along with a national registry of students who have successfully completed participating programs. The goal is a workforce that is skilled, knowledgeable, and able to meet the needs of the industry today and well into the future.
