Overview

About the Product

Part of a crucial foundation for perioperative care, MICROBIOLOGY FOR SURGICAL TECHNOLOGISTS, 2nd Edition helps surgical technology students understand and prevent disease transmission in clinical settings. In addition to exploring the vast microbial world, learners investigate the infectious disease process and disease pathologies, correlating them with anatomical body systems. Health and safety procedures are important topics, with key procedures for protecting patients, team members, and the students themselves. MICROBIOLOGY FOR SURGICAL TECHNOLOGISTS, 2nd Edition is also packed with helpful extras, including colorful photos, realistic case studies, end-of-chapter questions, and special boxed features that call out interesting facts and anecdotes to highlight the importance of aseptic and sterile techniques in every surgical intervention.

Features

  • Easy Discussions: Features include “CSTs: Clinical Significance Topics,” giving you quick access to discussion topics that link chapter content to surgical technologist roles and responsibilities in perioperative settings.

  • Microscopic Topics: “Under the Microscope” case studies and questions follow every chapter, providing critical thinking opportunities for students at any point in their surgical technology program curriculum.

  • Disease Focus: Critical attention to the causative factors and preventative measures involved in disease transmission help students understand the common biological threats in perioperative environments and the outside world.

  • Interacting Functions: Chapters explore the key professionals and diagnostic processes within the clinical microbiology department, along with the interconnections between the department, operating room, and pathology departments.

  • Med-Surg Terms: Lists of these important terms and their definitions expand student vocabularies while broadening their understanding of medical-surgical roles, responsibilities, and environments.

  • Biological Makeup: Organized logically, chapters group subjects according to broadly related microbial characteristics as well as those pathological diseases that commonly affect specific body systems.

  • Enhanced Images: Graphics such as illustrations, diagrams, and color images add even greater visual impact to readings, while helping students zero in on microbial characteristics and pathology.

  • Timely Media: Exciting discussions center on contemporary issues in media, including disease outbreaks, healthcare-acquired infections, increasing antibiotic resistance, bioterrorism, and public health crises around the world.
