About the Author

Heather Crawford

Heather Crawford RN, B.Sc.N, M.Ed., CHE is currently the Executive Director, Professional and Nursing Practice at Peace Country Health region, with responsibilities that include being the Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Professional Practice Officer, in addition to leading the Staff Development Department. Heather is currently on leave (until May 2008) from McMaster University in Hamilton, where she is pursuing her PhD in Nursing. Prior to her recent return to Alberta, Heather was the Associate Dean for health programs at the Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. She also taught in the Practical Nursing and Nursing Programs Mohawk, Niagara, and George Brown Colleges, and the University of Alberta and Ryerson University. In addition to teaching, Heather has been an independent Consultant for the health care industry. She has held various Nursing leadership positions throughout her career, which include: Vice President, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Brantford, Ontario, Director, Practice and Policy College of Nurses of Ontario, VP & CNO Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre, and Patient Care Director-Medicine, Critical Care and Cardiac Sciences at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton.
