Nelson Education Teams Up With Canadian Space Agency For Professional Development Event; Teachers, Scientists and CSA Astronaut in attendance

Vancouver , February 24, 2007- Vancouver area secondary school science teachers conquered the 'final frontier' thanks to a unique professional development event created by science resource publishers Nelson Education and hosted by the scientists and engineers of the Canadian Space Agency, on Saturday February 24 th in Vancouver .

Showcasing the intrigue of space and its relevance in the science classroom, this daylong event helped teachers make science relevant, real and exciting for their students by providing educators with direct access to Canadian scientists, engineers and astronauts.

Committed to encouraging superior science education, Nelson Education and the Canadian Space Agency offered teachers a daylong keynote sessions and hands-on workshops that gave them greater knowledge of space, increased access to Agency resources and fostered ongoing relationships between science educators and the men and women of the Canadian space program.

Special guest speakers included:

Dr. Robert Thirsk, BC's Astronaut, Canadian Space Agency
Dr. Jaymie M. Matthews, UBC, MOST Space Telescope designer
Dr. Chris Herd, Geologist, University of Alberta
